The Sacramento County Teacher of the Year program highlights educational innovation, student learning, and the rewards of teaching.
The Sacramento County Teachers of the Year program recognizes excellence in teaching within the county’s schools. Participating districts nominate individual teachers to receive this special recognition. The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) also nominates one of its teachers to compete. All of the school districts within the Sacramento County, local charter schools, and SCOE, are invited to participate in the program each year.
The process culminates with a September awards event where all district nominees are introduced by students or former students, and the nominees themselves address a crowd of more than 300 people. At the Teachers of the Year awards recognition dinner, two teachers are identified as the Sacramento County Teachers of the Year and are then eligible to participate in the statewide program.
The celebrated teachers also took part in studio interviews where they were able to share a bit more insight into their individual teaching journeys. Both the studio interviews as well as the awards event will air on SECC (Comcast channel 16, AT&T U-Verse channel 99, and Consolidated Communications channel 22) at the following times:
