Del Campo High School media students Maddie & Michelle set out on their first SEVAFest event with a purpose – to capture a compelling news story at the event. Hosted by Sacramento Republic FC, students at the event received media credentials, a press conference with the team’s General Manager, and stadium access to create their videos. They quickly started gathering interviews and B-roll while their story formed. Their completed video focuses on the dedication of Sacramento Republic fans and the Sacramento Republic’s dedication to the community.
Their news package was selected as the top submitted among 20 entries. The Republic communications team thought that their video contained “excellent storytelling” and that capturing an interview with Community Investment Manager Kevin Burdick and sounds of the fans was “gold.”
The duo was rewarded for their hard work with a celebration at the last game of the season including tickets to the match as well as getting to watch their video on the big screen before the game. The students commented that “this was like something I have never experienced before. Nothing can top it!”
