SEVA Studio Profile
Folsom High School was one of the first full media studios that SECC helped establish and has been a powerhouse for media production since. Today, in the Folsom High School Television Production Program, students study video production as an art form and a means of communication. Students learn the history of mass media, as well as the principals of video and audio. Once students complete Video Production 1, they can advance to Video Production 2 where they are able to represent the school through the videos they create. Students create the live school telecast the “Bulldog Daily Bulletin” as well as short films as part of “Doghouse Productions.” Students are encouraged to film activities outside of the school day as well as create short films to submit to film festivals in order to put their skills to the test. Back in the classroom, students use a professional-level live television studio to create their broadcasts.
SEVA Teacher Scott Southard
This week’s SEVA Teacher of the Week is Scott Southard from Folsom High School in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District. Mr. Southard has been with the district for many years and brings a wealth of knowledge in audio and video production to his teaching. Under his guidance, the Bulldog Bulletin has been one of the longest running high school news programs in the area. Mr. Southard keeps up with the constant changes in technology and works hard to ensure the Folsom High School media program remains current. He never backs down from a challenge while teaching, and because of this his students graduate and head in to the real world with a tremendous head start. It’s easy for him to keep up with the constant changes using the tremendous amount of energy he possesses, a fact that his students always mention. His students also really appreciate the way he supports them, especially during distance learning. His passion for creativity is obvious and he truly helps ignite the creative spark in his students. Thank you, Mr. Southard, for showing what incredible things can happen when you are a creative and energetic teacher.
