The year’s SEVA awards night was truly a celebration of all SEVA student’s hard work throughout the year. For the duration of the event students and teachers were recognized for their hard work and dedication to not just the SEVA program itself, but also to video-making as a whole. Held in CSUS Sacramento’s beautiful ballroom, this showcase of ingenuity and effort effectively presented projects from different schools, age groups, and video types, awarding both honorable mentions and actual SEVA awards to the top contenders.
From the start of the event, students’ spirit was very high, not only due to the excitement surrounding the possibility of recognition, but also due to both the red carpet interview station and the photo station.
A new contest called the Instagram challenge turned out to be a fantastic idea, one that encouraged students to take pictures of the event in order to possibly win a SEVA t-shirt for the “best” photo taken. That winning photo would be chosen from the selection of photos using the hashtag #sevaawards.
Moving on to the awards portion in itself, it was amazing how both animation and video edits contributed to a wide array of successful projects. From projects based on foreign events, personal experiences, and national emergencies, even on hobbies and leisure activities, the contrasts provided unity under the umbrella of education, effectively creating an educational ambience for the entire Awards Night as a whole.
In conclusion, the 2016 SEVA Awards Night displayed not only student talent and dedication, but also the benefits of video editing as well as constructive collaboration. All attendees were able to learn about having fun through education, and hopefully gained the ability to apply their learnings to their respective lives.
