Collaborating & Connecting with Author Monica Edinger
Sunrise Elementary Teacher, Melissa Azevada and her fourth and fifth grade students connected with author Monica Edinger this spring on her new book, Africa Is My Home. Students received advance copies of the book to read, review, discuss and provide feedback to Ms. Edinger through their class blog.
In late May, the Sunrise students Skyped with Ms. Edinger to learn more about her writing process and the use of primary resources. This project is a rich example of Common Core Standards (reading, writing, speaking, listening, primary source documents, close reading, etc.) and technology integration. It is also validating the students as historians and literary critics.
