SEVA 2016 – PSA College Winner – What is the Real Lesson
SEVA Award
Public Service Announcement (PSA): College
Program Title: What is the Real Lesson
Producers: Amanda Keneipp
School: California State University Sacramento
Target Audience: Parents, teachers, kids, and babyistters
Program Idea: I got my inspiration for the video from an article about a young girl getting hurt by a child of the opposite sex on the playground. When she went to the doctor’s office the doctor proceeded to tell her that the young boy must have a crush on her. The theory is that we are taught from an early age that abuse means admiration, and that it is more acceptable to consent to the abuse than to stand up for yourself on the playground.
Message: My targeted demographic is parents, educators, children, and babysitters – really anyone that is involved in teaching children lessons day to day. What is the Real Lesson was developed because everyday there are lessons learned, and most of them are instilled without notice. Adult’s reactions to problems tell children a lot about what to expect from people and the world, so it is important to be mindful of the things we teach the young.
