SEVA 2017 Allan Hinderstein Award – Vernon Bisho
This year’s Allan Hinderstein Award is given to Vernon Bisho, a high school teacher who for the past 16 years has shared the power of video with students of all ages. As a teacher at Center High School’s Media Communications Academy, Mr. Bisho has worked tirelessly to build an award-winning program where story structure and writing are the foundation of student video projects.
Back in the early days of SEVA, Mr. Bisho graciously hosted Award Night several times at Center High School until the event exceeded the capacity of their theater. He has been a frequent contributor to SEVA Training Events and StudentDV with his humble presence, subtle humor and vast knowledge of video production techniques.
Most recently, Mr. Bisho has been expanding his teaching to the middle and elementary schools in his district. Working with teachers at each site, Mr. Bisho and his high school students visit their feeder schools to assist, guide and inspire younger filmmakers. It’s this spirit of sharing and collaboration that we celebrate tonight in honoring Vernon Bisho for his years of service to Sacramento County students.
