The Heron Show is a weekly newscast done by students in the advanced media class at Heron School. These students transform their classroom into a studio each day. In a matter of minutes the tables of the classroom are pushed back and students bring out all the equipment needed to create their show. Students collaborate on news segments and each brings their own flare to the show. All students in this class have been through beginning media, where they work on SEVA projects like Documentaries, PSAs, Instructional, and Creative Expression videos. Mr. King uses every opportunity to teach students about the various techniques and skills they will need in class and beyond. Students are simultaneously learning communication, collaboration, project management, as well as other life skills that they will be able to take with them into any career they pursue. Students gladly accept the opportunity to express their creativity and give value back to their school. It is easy to see that this program is a great benefit to the entire Heron K-8 community.
